Water Polo Booster

Yep, that's me, a.k.a. Autie Teri. I love to watch my uber-athletic second cousins do their thing in the pool. Water polo is very big in California, and the rest of the country is catching on. Let's face it. We really do have the weather for it. The kids go from swim lessons, to swim team, to polo if they want to. They are excellent swimmers and my nephew just finished his high school career. I still remember my last high school match. We lost in the CIF quarter finals to Mira Costa. There were tears. It truly marked the end of an era.

The large photo was take at one of the final high school tournaments at a Monta Vista High School in Cupertino. Newport did very well, but did not take home the top prize. My nephew has attracted the attention of coaches at some of the top polo schools and we hope he can keep his grades at a level where all options will be open to him. He is applying to colleges now. He will join the National team, and continue to play on club teams to keep his game up to par.

His sister is also making waves, not even in high school yet. She has finally grown into her body, always one of the tallest young ladies in her class, she is really finding her stroke (couldn't resist that one!). Her "14-year-olds" team was ranked 8th in a recent tournament, and they placed third. Recently, she was selected for the honor of participating in a special camp for water polo athletes in Texas. I guess the extra training made a difference. Photo at right is their little bro John, my youngest nephew.
